Ukraine is set to face scheduled blackouts starting August 19, following a three-week break, according to the state grid operator Ukrenergo. The decision comes as a result of increased electricity consumption due to hot weather conditions. The last power cuts occurred on July 29 amid a record-breaking heatwave and Russian aerial strikes.
Residents are advised to prepare for power outages during specific hours as the energy grid faces strain. Ukrenergo’s chairman, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, emphasized the need for energy conservation to mitigate discomfort. Despite ongoing challenges, officials believe repairs at nuclear power units could improve the energy situation by August.
The country continues its efforts to restore the power grid before winter while striving to minimize the impact of regular blackouts on daily life.
