Tesanjski – Yet Another BiH City in Crisis with Water Scarcity

The citizens of Tešanj are currently experiencing water supply restrictions due to high temperatures. Even though the reductions have not been officially announced, they have been in effect for fifteen days. The municipal government has come under criticism for spending three million marks on new wells over three years while the water cuts persist.

With 9,500 users or 30,000 residents connected to the city’s water system, many are facing unannounced water shortages. Residents like Behija Kunalić are struggling, while others like Senada Kurtanović are hopeful for rain.

The utility company claims to be delivering sufficient water despite the hydrological challenges. Hasan Handžić, director of JP Rad, Tešanj, highlights the decrease in water flow from the main source and mentions past repercussions for similar issues.

The authorities have not declared a state of natural disaster or reduced water supply despite calls to do so. Plans for new wells and negotiations for additional water sources are in progress to address the ongoing water supply struggles in Tešanj.
