Sudan’s political efforts endangered by escalating clashes.

The ongoing armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan are jeopardizing political efforts for peace, despite peace talks in Geneva. The Sinnar Youth Gathering reported 80 casualties in an RSF attack on a village in southeastern Sudan, complicating the fragile situation.

Peace negotiations in Geneva aimed at achieving a ceasefire and improving humanitarian access have been stalled due to the absence of the Sudanese government and army, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the RSF. The government’s reluctance to participate in talks has been criticized, with analysts highlighting the impact of this decision on the conflict resolution process.

The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, has claimed over 16,650 lives and displaced millions within Sudan and to neighboring countries. The urgent need for a sustainable peace agreement remains, as the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen.
