In a recent turn of events, Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy accused the Congress of trying to blackmail him by reopening old cases of alleged illegal mining. He challenged the state government to approach the Supreme Court instead of waiting for the Governor’s assent to investigate his involvement in the case. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had noted that the Governor had not acted on a petition seeking approval to prosecute Kumaraswamy.
Kumaraswamy emphasized that the Congress could have initiated a probe into the Sai Venkateshwara scam, where his involvement was alleged, without needing his prosecution. He boldly stated that he was unafraid of any investigations against him and would face them single-handedly.
Dismissing rumors of political maneuvering by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy clarified that Gowda had met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah for matters related to the inclusion of Kadugollas in the list of Scheduled Tribes. The minister reaffirmed his readiness to confront any challenges on his own, without relying on support from others.
