From Australia to Russia, and from the Amazon to Siberia, millions of hectares of land have been ravaged, threatening ecosystems and communities alike.
In Australia, the Black Summer fires of 2019-2020 burned over 24 million hectares, destroying homes, habitats, and wildlife. In Russia, wildfires in 2021 devastated approximately 18 million hectares, contributing to global air pollution. Meanwhile, in Brazil, the Amazon Rainforest suffered extensive damage in 2019 and 2020, impacting one of the world’s most critical ecosystems.
European countries like Spain, Greece, and Italy have also faced severe wildfires in recent years, causing widespread destruction and prompting evacuations. Balkan states and Cyprus have been on high alert, with Bulgaria and North Macedonia receiving assistance from Türkiye in combating wildfires.
As wildfires continue to threaten communities worldwide, international cooperation is essential in addressing these crises. Türkiye has been actively involved in providing assistance to neighboring countries and responding to wildfires within its own borders, showcasing the importance of solidarity in tackling this global challenge.
