The “Dignity Sit-in” in Aleppo’s northern countryside is leading a movement to establish a Supreme Commission to guide the Syrian revolution, sparked by recent events in northern Syria. Emphasizing the need for new political and civil leadership to address administrative failures and lack of effective solutions, the proposed Commission aims to dissolve existing bodies that have failed to meet the people’s demands since 2012.
Objectives and Proposals
The Supreme Commission seeks to realign the revolution with its core goals of freedom and dignity, engaging with international powers for recognition and advancing political transition in accordance with international resolutions. It plans to establish a Supreme Judicial Council, combat terrorism, strengthen democracy, and create a network of civil society organizations.
Preparatory Committee and Legislative Authority
Led by lawyer Fahd Al-Mousa, a preparatory committee will lay the groundwork for the Commission, with legislative authority over political, civil, and service-related matters.
Electoral Process and Representation
The Commission will select 125 members through an electoral college representing all Syrian governorates, ensuring inclusive representation for the Syrian population, both inside and outside the country. This step is a response to calls to realign the revolution with its original goals, free from external interference.
