Abbas Araqchi, the nominee for foreign minister by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, has outlined his priorities if approved, with an emphasis on the dignified removal of sanctions. Araqchi, a former nuclear negotiator, highlighted the need for consensus and common understanding in decision-making regarding sanctions.
He reiterated Iran’s stance on not tolerating rushed negotiations, stating that the country’s foreign policy will focus on increasing wealth, power, and dignity. Araqchi also emphasized improving ties with neighbors, Europe, and countries like Russia and China.
The new administration aims to enhance relations with emerging powers and manage hostilities with the United States. Araqchi affirmed support for the Palestinian cause and Lebanon’s resistance against Israeli policies.
The Iranian Parliament is currently reviewing the proposed cabinet members, with President Pezeshkian emphasizing unity among government branches. Despite criticism from some quarters, Pezeshkian has urged patience to evaluate the cabinet’s performance once in action.
