Colombia halts coal shipments to Israel

COLOMBIA TAKES A STAND AGAINST ISRAEL: COAL SUPPLIES HALTED

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has made a bold move by signing a decree to cease coal supplies to Israel in response to the Israeli army’s actions in the Gaza Strip. The official document was published on the government’s website, stating that the export of coal to Israel is now prohibited, effective five days from publication.

The decree highlights that Colombia exported $375 million worth of goods and raw materials to Israel from January to August 2023, with a significant amount being coal. It also points out that Israel heavily relies on coal for energy production, as well as for military purposes.

This decision reflects Colombia’s firm stance against the operations carried out by the Israeli army, demonstrating solidarity with the people of Gaza. President Petro’s decree sends a clear message of support for the victims of violence and conflict in the region.
