China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand came together in Chiang Mai, Thailand to discuss combatting cross-border crime. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of security for the development of all nations. He highlighted the prevalence of online gambling and telecom fraud, which threaten people’s safety and national stability.
Wang advocated for increased collaboration among the four countries to tackle these crimes effectively. Through the Global Security Initiative, over 50,000 individuals involved in illegal activities have been apprehended since last year. The focus is on tightening border control, sharing intelligence, and conducting joint operations to bring criminals to justice.
The foreign ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in combatting various crimes and maintaining peace in the region. Wang called for further integration of resources and training to strengthen transnational cooperation. The goal is to deepen legal and judicial exchanges to enhance governance capacities and ensure the safety of all countries involved.
