Amnesty Intl calls for release of 1,000 #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Amnesty International revealed that over 1000 #EndBadGovernance protesters are currently in prison nationwide after recent hunger protests. The protests, held from August 1 to 10, turned violent in some areas, leading to looting and vandalism.

The Inspector-General of Police announced the arrest of sponsors of rioters who called for a change of government in states like Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara. Amnesty International accused Nigerian authorities of cracking down on peaceful protesters by arraigning over 100 protesters in court.

The organization urged for the immediate release of all those arrested for exercising their right to peaceful assembly. Nigeria’s government is urged to uphold the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

Amnesty International emphasized the need for a fair trial and the cessation of crackdown on protesters fighting against hunger and corruption.
