A group of 95 Libyans who were arrested at a suspected military training base in White River, Mpumalanga, are set to be returned to their home country on Sunday morning. The Department of Home Affairs confirmed this after charges against them were dropped and they were handed over for deportation.
They were apprehended in July after a police raid on a farm in White River, with allegations that they misrepresented themselves in their visa applications by claiming they were coming to South Africa to train as security guards.
The department stated, “They are scheduled to depart from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport this morning on a flight provided by the Libyan government.” Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber commended officials for their swift action in ensuring the deportation process.
“We are committed to upholding immigration laws,” he stated. This incident highlights the importance of monitoring and enforcing compliance with visa regulations to safeguard national security.
