At the recent national congress of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Jae-myung successfully secured his re-election as party leader with an overwhelming 85.40% of the vote. The congress, held at the KSPO Dome in Olympic Park, Seoul, also saw two other candidates, Kim Du-kwan and Kim Ji-su, receiving 12.12% and 2.48% of the vote, respectively.
Despite falling short of his previous online voting results of 89.9%, Lee’s final tally of 85.40% still marked a significant victory. The selection process took into account a combination of delegate votes (14%), party member votes (56%), and public opinion polls (30%).
The congress was the culmination of 17 regional primaries and online voting rounds. Lee’s success in the party leadership election highlights his popularity among party members and delegates alike, setting the tone for his continued leadership within the party.
