Violent Israeli Colonization Surges in Gaza, as Peace Talks Hang in Balance

Sputnik International

Leila Hatoum, a Lebanese-based journalist, economist, and geopolitical analyst, discussed the tension in the Middle East and Israeli colonization of Palestinian land on Sputnik’s Fault Lines.

On Tuesday, an Iranian security official warned of an attack on Israel if ceasefire talks with Hamas failed. Despite this, Iran is expected to hold back to allow negotiations to continue. Meanwhile, a deadly settler rampage in the West Bank led to the death of a Palestinian.

Top officials from the US, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar met in Doha for talks. Hamas, disillusioned with US involvement, did not attend negotiations, suspecting Israel’s new demands would sabotage peace.

Settler violence has escalated with over 1,200 attacks on Palestinians. Reports suggest 90,000 armed Israeli settlers in the West Bank fuel the conflict.

This conflict highlights the absurdity of land claims and the impact of colonization on Palestinian lives.
