A murder case has been filed against former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in connection with the death of a college student during quota reform protests. This marks the seventh case against Hasina since her resignation amid widespread demonstrations. The case also involves former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel and several other Awami League leaders.
The incident occurred during a protest where attackers, allegedly acting on the orders of Hasina and Nowfel, opened fire on students, resulting in the death of the student. This incident led to the deaths of two others at the same location.
Furthermore, five other cases have been filed against Hasina in the past four days, including charges of murder, abduction, and torture. The recent wave of cases against Hasina follows the formation of an interim government post-her resignation. The situation has also attracted the attention of a team of UN experts who will visit Bangladesh to investigate the killings of protesters. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
