Kuwait examines fuel subsidy changes

Exciting Changes on the Horizon for Kuwait’s Gasoline Pricing

Kuwait is on the brink of a significant transformation in its gasoline pricing policy, as the government contemplates easing restrictions for expatriates and businesses while potentially maintaining subsidies for Kuwaiti citizens with driving licenses.

Various proposals are being considered to revamp fuel subsidies, with the goal of targeting assistance more effectively. By aligning gasoline prices with global rates, an estimated savings of 600 million dinars could be achieved, impacting traffic patterns nationwide.

Although no final decisions have been reached, the Ministry of Finance continues to assess all options as part of a broader initiative to streamline subsidies and ensure equitable distribution. Full liberalization of gasoline prices, affecting expatriates, businesses, and potentially citizens, is one of the potential strategies under review.
