Main opposition SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis faced hateful and homophobic comments online after his wedding gift list was published on a pro-government site. Blaming the ruling conservative New Democracy party and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for orchestrating the attack, Kasselakis, who is gay, highlighted the derogatory remarks made by supporters of the government.
One comment even wished for him to “die and burn in hell” due to his political affiliation. Kasselakis held Mitsotakis accountable for the online abuse and criticized the coordination between the publishing of the list and the hateful comments. He emphasized the need to address and combat such discriminatory behavior in the public sphere.
