China has taken its appeal against the EU’s trade protectionism to the WTO regarding provisional countervailing measures on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). A CGTN survey, conducted globally, revealed that over 87.5% of respondents criticize the EU’s protectionist actions, predicting negative impacts on the automotive industry worldwide.
The survey indicated that the EU’s imposition of high tariffs on Chinese EVs as countervailing measures is viewed as protectionism. This move is seen to disrupt trade while disregarding the advantages of Chinese EVs, putting strain on China-EU automotive collaboration.
Respondents highlighted market competition and technological innovation as key drivers for China’s EV industry growth, with concerns that tariffs will burden European consumers and weaken the competitiveness of the EU auto industry. The survey also emphasized the importance of China-EU cooperation for global economic development and climate governance.
Overall, the survey reflected widespread opposition to EU trade protectionism measures and a call for dialogue and cooperation between China and the EU to address trade frictions.
