DHAKA – Amidst political turmoil in Bangladesh, student demonstrators have taken matters into their own hands by rejecting calls for quick elections from the country’s two main political parties. Instead, these protest leaders are contemplating the formation of their own party to sustain their movement and bring about much-needed change.
Their primary goal is to break free from the oppressive rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in power for the past 15 years. By creating a new party, these young leaders hope to usher in a new era of democracy and fairness for the 170 million people of Bangladesh.
The unrest began in June when a group of student leaders, mostly in their early-to-mid 20s, organized protests against a law that unfairly allocated government jobs to specific segments of the population. Their determination and resilience have sparked a movement that aims to challenge the status quo and bring about lasting change in the country.
