Argentina confirms sixth case of monkeypox nationwide
A new case of monkeypox was confirmed in the Argentine province of Corrientes, bringing the total number of cases in the country to six. The World Health Organization recently declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern after an outbreak in Africa.
The patient in Corrientes has been discharged and is recovering well according to the local health minister. Argentina has reported a total of six cases out of 39 reported, with patients aged between 23 and 38 years.
Authorities clarified that the new case is not the new variant, but rather a type that has been appearing sporadically since 2022. The government has implemented reinforced prevention measures and tighter border controls to curb the spread of the virus.
Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus, with symptoms including vesicular rashes, fever, and myalgias. However, there have been no deaths reported from monkeypox in Argentina so far.
