Amnesty International has revealed that over 1000 #EndBadGovernance protesters are currently in prison nationwide after recent hunger protests. The protests, held between August 1 and 10, turned violent in some areas, leading to looting and vandalism.
The Inspector-General of Police announced the arrest of sponsors of rioters in states like Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara. Amnesty International criticized the Nigerian authorities for escalating crackdowns on peaceful protesters by arraigning over 100 individuals in court.
The organization called for the immediate release of all arrested protesters, emphasizing the right to peaceful assembly. With over 1000 people detained and unfair trials reported, Amnesty International urged the Nigerian government to uphold freedom of expression and assembly.
