80% of Ukraine’s army supply contracts held by Ukrainian companies – defense ministry

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has reported that over 80% of materiel contracts for the Armed Forces are now with domestic producers, showcasing a significant increase in contracts with Ukrainian manufacturers. This shift comes after the establishment of the State Logistics Operator (DOT) in December 2023, responsible for non-military purchases. Since its inception, DOT has engaged 28 new Ukrainian companies, leading to improved product quality and reduced costs for essential supplies.

One notable example is the production of chemical hot water bottles for servicemembers, previously imported from China at a higher cost. This domestic contract has already saved millions for the Defense Ministry. Additionally, DOT has partnered with a Ukrainian company experienced in producing summer field uniforms, a strategic move to combat corruption in military procurement.

Despite past scandals, the ministry is making efforts towards transparent and efficient procurement, emphasizing the importance of supporting local suppliers. This commitment reflects a broader strategy to enhance the military’s capabilities while fostering innovation within the domestic defense industry.
