Tragedy struck in Warrap State as a clash between the Akok and the Luachjang communities in Tonj East County resulted in 13 deaths and 12 injuries. This violence was a continuation of a previous confrontation on August 9, where 10 lives were lost and four were injured. The latest clash was triggered by an attack from armed youth of the Akok section on the Luachjang community.
Authorities confirmed that seven individuals from Akok and six from Luachjang were killed, with four and eight wounded respectively. Despite the violence, the security situation has now stabilized, even without government intervention. The root of the conflict stems from a series of revenge attacks, starting from the murder of a couple from the Akok community by Luachjang youth in May.
As tensions ease in the area, it is important for the authorities to address the underlying issues to prevent further violence and loss of life between these two communities.
