Former IG Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig Returns After ‘Two-Day Detention’
Shahid Saleem Baig, former Inspector General of Prisons, has returned home in Lahore after a reported two-day detention, with his mobile phone switched off during this time. His wife, also a government employee, was absent from work for two days as well.
Although the reasons behind his detention remain unclear, Shahid Saleem Baig served in the prison department for five years before retiring. This incident comes following the arrest of former Adiala jail deputy superintendent for allegedly aiding former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a related development, Central Jail Rawalpindi deputy superintendent Malik Mohammad Akram and two other officials were taken for interrogation. The Punjab government had previously announced the retirement of Inspector General of Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig in 2022, two months before his scheduled retirement age.
