Russia successfully repelled a night-time attack using 12 U.S.-made missiles targeting the Crimea bridge, a landmark built on the orders of President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of the peninsula. The defense ministry reported that all 12 ATACMS missiles were destroyed by Russian air defenses.
The bridge, opened in 2018, connects Kerch in Crimea with southern Russia’s Krasnodar region. This incident comes amid ongoing attacks and attempted attacks by Kyiv on the Kerch Bridge since Moscow’s military offensive began in 2022.
In a separate event, Russia’s defense ministry announced the destruction of five naval drones in the Black Sea heading for Crimea. Tensions have been high between Russia and Ukraine, with the Kremlin issuing warnings to the United States after a Ukrainian strike with a U.S. missile on Crimea caused casualties earlier this year.
