The Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region has surprised both Russia and Kyiv’s allies. US President Joe Biden and his administration have been closely monitoring the situation, causing a dilemma for Putin. The Ukrainian army’s successful incursion into Russian territory aims to force Russian troops back from Donbas to assist in Kursk- and it seems to be working.

Ukrainian forces have gained ground, controlling settlements and territory previously occupied by Russian forces. Despite concerns from some US politicians about cross-border strikes, support for Ukraine remains strong. Senator Lindsey Graham praised Ukraine’s actions and called for continued support in their fight against Russia.

The Biden administration has authorized the use of US-supplied weapons by Ukraine but discourages direct intervention. This bold move by Ukraine has shifted the balance of power in the region, signaling a new chapter in the conflict.
