A 26-year-old Queensland man has been charged with fraud after allegedly running a scheme to trade cash for demerit points, involving over 200 falsely nominated tickets.

Police discovered the operation after a victim received a $20,000 fine, leading to the arrest of the man who allegedly managed a business dealing with fraudulent demerit points for at least three years.

Detective Superintendent Craig McGrath warned that online anonymity does not protect fraudsters and that investigators will prosecute those involved in the scheme.

Queensland Police emphasized that the demerit point system is crucial for improving road safety and that offenders should face the consequences of their actions.
