Putin to visit Azerbaijan to strengthen relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan for a two-day official trip to strengthen ties and discuss regional and international developments, as announced by the Kremlin. This visit marks Putin’s first trip to Azerbaijan since 2018 and comes at a crucial time as Russia aims to mediate between Azerbaijan and its rival Armenia.

The Kremlin stated, “The further enhancement of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, alongside discussions on pressing international and regional issues, will be key topics during the visit.” The visit will also involve the signing of joint statements and intergovernmental agreements between the two nations.

Due to the shifting dynamics in energy supply following European countries reducing their reliance on Russian gas, Azerbaijan has emerged as a valuable alternative with its abundant oil and gas resources. This shift has become more significant since Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine in 2022.
