Pro-Ukraine group urges Russian troops to surrender

The Freedom of Russia Legion, a volunteer battalion linked with Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, is urging Russian troops to switch sides in the ongoing conflict in Russia’s Kursk region. In a recent Telegram announcement, the group criticized Russian elites and encouraged soldiers to choose life over blindly following orders to their death. Ukraine recently captured over 150 Russian prisoners of war, emphasizing the inexperienced nature of many of the troops sent to contain Ukraine’s offense. The Legion is actively recruiting Russian troops to join their cause and turn against the Kremlin. This initiative follows previous incursions into Russia’s Belgorod region earlier this year. In a 2022 interview with Kyiv Post, a Legion fighter expressed the belief that only an armed uprising can bring freedom to Russia. As tensions continue to escalate, the Legion remains vigilant in their efforts to encourage defections and fight for a better future for both Ukraine and Russia.
