Call to Halt Arms Sales to Israel: Israeli Leftists Protest at British Consulate in Jerusalem
Dozens of Israeli leftists gathered outside the British Consulate General in East Jerusalem to demand the UK government cease supplying weapons to Israel amid its devastating war on the Gaza Strip. Holding signs that read “Stop Arming Genocide” and “No More Blood on British Hands,” protesters called for an end to arms sales as a response to the over 40,000 Palestinians killed in extensive bombardments since last October.
The protest, organized by the group Jerusalem Free, saw Israeli police forcibly dispersing demonstrators. The UK government, facing pressure to halt arms exports to Israel, has delayed a decision following evidence of possible war crimes committed in Gaza. With arms sales to Israel amounting to £18.2 million in 2023, international condemnation persists over the ongoing Israeli offensive on Gaza, termed as a genocide by the International Court of Justice.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel continues its brutal offensive on Gaza, leaving vast tracts in ruins and millions in need of aid. Israeli leftists continue to protest for an end to the war and arms supplies, amplifying their voices for peace and justice.
