Israeli Closure of Rafah Crossing Leads to Over 1,000 Deaths in Gaza
Recent reports from the Hamas-run Gaza government media office have revealed that over 1,000 deaths have occurred in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli army’s prolonged closure of the Rafah crossing. The closure, in effect for over 100 days, has restricted travel for 25,000 patients and wounded individuals seeking medical treatment abroad.
Warning of the dire consequences, Ismail Thawabteh, head of the office, stressed that denial of access to medical treatment has put the remaining individuals at risk of death. He held both Israeli authorities and the U.S. administration responsible for the severe outcomes, including hindrance of medical supplies and humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, Hamas has declined to participate in upcoming ceasefire negotiations in Qatar until a clear commitment from Israel to adhere to previous agreements is made. This decision follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approval to send a negotiating delegation to Qatar for talks on a ceasefire in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Israeli actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and called for international intervention to halt aggression in Gaza and prevent further escalation in the region.
