In a recent development in Ukraine, a Russian T-90M tank with Ukrainian operational markings was sighted near the Russian border in the Sumy region. This comes amidst the ongoing incursion into Russia’s Kursk region. The tank, named “Pirozhok” meaning meat pie in Ukrainian, was photographed by AFP photographer Roman Pilipey, showcasing Ukraine’s distinct markers.
OSINTechnical identified the tank as a Russian T-90M, entered into service in 2020 and praised by President Putin. Reports from Oryx confirmed that Russia has lost 103 of these tanks in the war, with five being captured by Ukrainian troops. The highly modernized T-90M boasts advanced features compared to its predecessors T-90 and T-90A, with enhanced protection, fire control system, engine, and transmission.
The newer version, T-90 “Proryv,” is equipped with advanced technology including a 125 mm gun, multi-layered armor, and electronic systems. The estimated value of the T-90M is around $4.5 million, produced in limited quantities by Russia. This development underscores the intensity of the conflict and the use of sophisticated military equipment in the region.
