Senator Adams Oshiomhole has been given a seven-day ultimatum to retract his defamatory remarks against Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Edo State. Ighodalo has demanded a private and public apology from Oshiomhole or face a N20 billion legal action.
In a letter dated August 12, 2024, Ighodalo’s lawyers highlighted the false and damaging comments made by Oshiomhole during a television appearance on Arise News. The PDP candidate stated that Oshiomhole’s unsubstantiated claims attacked his reputation and integrity.
The letter demands a written apology and retraction within seven days, to be published on Arise TV and in two national newspapers. Failure to comply would result in a legal suit for damages amounting to N20 billion.
This development showcases the growing trend of holding public figures accountable for their statements and the consequences of spreading false information. It serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical communication and the repercussions of slander in the political landscape.
