The EFF is facing a challenge in its growth trajectory, according to Prof Susan Booysen, following the departure of founding member and deputy leader Floyd Shivambu to the MK Party (MKP).
Shivambu announced his resignation at a press briefing, citing personal reasons for his decision.
Speculations about political motives and strained relations with Julius Malema, the party’s leader, have emerged as reasons for Shivambu’s exit. Booysen believes that Shivambu’s leadership aspirations were not accommodated within the EFF under Malema’s leadership.
Malema acknowledged the possibility of more members leaving the party in the wake of Shivambu’s departure, leading to potential loss of support for the EFF.
While Booysen sees this development as a setback for the party, she stops short of calling it a dying entity. With her background as an author of books on the ANC, Booysen believes the EFF will face challenges in its future growth.
