Senator Ned Nwoko, a member of the Senate Committee on Defence, highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s defence industry to drive economic growth at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) 60th Anniversary and Maiden Africa Defence Industries Conference. He emphasized the global powerhouse status of the defence sector and the need for private sector involvement to maximize its benefits.
Nwoko, who also served as the Chief Book Launcher at the event, stressed the importance of local production and manufacturing in the defence sector. He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity and financial resources to make the industry as profitable as the oil, gas, and banking sectors, calling for government support through licensing specialized companies and promoting public awareness.
By investing in the defence industry, Nwoko believes Nigeria can generate employment, attract investors, and reduce dependence on imports. His insightful remarks shed light on the untapped potential of this sector in driving economic development.
