Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal assured transparency in the probe of the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at a state-run hospital. Despite sufficient security, the police were caught off-guard by violent protests. Goyal emphasized that all evidence has been handed over to the CBI, as per the Calcutta High Court’s orders.
Goyal dismissed claims of shielding anyone and clarified that the police acted per standard procedures. He reiterated that labeling the crime as suicide was not the intention. The vandalism at RG Kar Hospital was condemned, with 25 arrests made in connection to the incident.
The vandals did not reach the crime scene, where the medic’s body was found. The hospital’s emergency department and other areas were damaged during the protests. Goyal praised the public for providing information, highlighting the challenges of controlling leaderless protests.
Overall, Goyal emphasized the police’s commitment to a transparent investigation and urged faith in the CBI’s efforts.
