China Calls on Houthis to Respect Rights of Navigation in Red Sea
A Chinese envoy recently reiterated the importance of the Houthis respecting the rights of navigation for all merchant ships in the Red Sea, in accordance with international law. Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, emphasized the need for all parties to prioritize the well-being of the Yemeni people and commit to a political solution, dialogue, and negotiation to resolve conflicts.
China also expressed support for UN mediation efforts in Yemen and urged countries with influence in the region to play a constructive role. The ambassador called for increased humanitarian assistance in Yemen and the immediate release of UN personnel detained there. Moreover, he highlighted the interconnected nature of the situations in Yemen, the Red Sea, and Gaza, urging the implementation of relevant UN resolutions for lasting peace.
China is prepared to work with the international community towards a political solution for Yemen, restoring regional peace and stability in the Middle East.
