China asserts legitimacy of patrols near Huangyan Island

China’s recent joint naval-air combat patrols near Huangyan Island are deemed as legitimate operations aimed at safeguarding its rights and interests, as well as maintaining regional stability, according to a defense spokesperson.

Huangyan Island is an integral part of China’s territory, and the South China Sea serves as a common home for regional countries, rather than a playground for external forces, stated Zhang Xiaogang, a Ministry of National Defense representative. The spokesperson criticized the Philippines for cooperating with foreign nations to disrupt peace and stability in the region, singling out the United States for instigating trouble.

China stands ready to take decisive actions against any provocations that violate its sovereignty and disrupt regional peace, Zhang emphasized. The country remains committed to defending its lawful rights and interests in the South China Sea.
