The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the implementation of the Enhanced E-Passport, a major reform in the country’s passport system. This new passport is the result of a thorough review of the existing e-passport booklet, which has been in use for over a decade with a 5-year validity period.
Key Features of the Enhanced E-Passport:
- Introduction of a high-security passport using polycarbonate technology.
- 10-year validity, reducing the need for frequent renewals.
- Automation of the issuance process for transparency and to eliminate touts.
- Strictly online payment system.
- Improved document management system for tracking applications and effective communication.
Requirements for First-Time E-Passport Issuance:
Applicants must submit an online application, payment proof, birth certificate, old passport photocopy (if applicable), two passport-sized photos, and administrative fees.
Application Procedure:
- Apply for passport renewal on the Nigeria Immigration website.
- Complete the online forms and submit.
- Print out the Reference Number and Application ID.
- Make payment online and print the application, payment, and acknowledgment slips.
- Attend the Nigerian High Commission with the necessary documents on the appointment date.
