Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Faces Court-Martial as Military Arrests Retired Officers
Pakistan’s military has made headlines with the recent arrests of three retired officers in connection with the investigation into former spy chief Faiz Hameed. Hameed is facing a court-martial on charges of corruption and misuse of power during his tenure as head of the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency.
The military revealed that the arrests were linked to Hameed’s alleged “actions prejudicial to military discipline” and ongoing investigations into other retired officers suspected of destabilizing the country at the behest of political interests.
Hameed, who led the ISI from 2019 to 2021, was arrested and accused of misconduct related to a private housing scheme on the outskirts of Islamabad. The military stated that Hameed had illegally occupied the housing scheme and committed multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act following his retirement.
