2 cops among 5 injured in Peshawar IED blast: official – Pakistan

Five people, including two policemen, were injured in a Friday morning blast in Peshawar, as reported by a police official. The explosion, caused by a remote-controlled IED, targeted a police van on patrol at around 9am, using four to five kilograms of explosives.

A total of six to seven suspects have been detained for investigation in connection with the incident, which is part of a series of attacks on police officials and checkposts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

After the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022, the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) intensified attacks on security forces. Recent incidents include a grenade attack on a check post in Lower Dir and an assault on a police post in Peshawar’s Regi Model Town.

In a tragic event in January 2023, a suicide bombing at a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines claimed the lives of 100 people, many of whom were police officials. While TTP initially claimed responsibility, doubts emerged over the actual perpetrators.
