On August 16, the Gwangbok Association criticized Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon Province and Consul General Kim Ui-hwan in New York for advocating Commemoration Day in 1948, calling it a false statement that the President’s Office will not promote Commemoration Day. The association noted that despite continuous demands to publicly declare that Commemoration Day will not be pursued, Governor Kim’s statements during the official celebration suggest government willingness to proceed with the event.

The Gwangbok Association emphasized that spreading the logic of “1948 Commemoration Day” undermines the hard-won identity of South Korea, dismissing it as unpatriotic. They vowed to strongly oppose such historical distortions that divide the nation. Controversy arose at a recent Gwangbokjeol event in New York, where Consul General Kim Ui-hwan criticized Chairman Lee Jong-chan’s memorial speech, while Governor Kim Jin-tae’s remarks at the Gangwon Province celebration sparked reactions from Gwangbok Association members.

In the face of these events, the Gwangbok Association remains steadfast in defending the integrity of South Korea’s historical legacy and unity among its people.
