Trump aims to postpone sentencing until after election

Former US President Donald Trump is fighting to delay his sentencing in a New York criminal hush money case until after the November 5th election, claiming it is an attempt to interfere with the election. Scheduled to be sentenced on September 18th, Trump is seeking more time to potentially appeal a ruling on presidential immunity before facing sentencing.

In a letter to Justice Juan Merchan, Trump’s defense team argued for a postponement, stating there is no reason to rush the sentencing. Following his guilty verdict for falsifying business records to cover up a payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, prosecutors claim it was part of a scheme to corrupt the 2016 election.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office declined to comment on the matter, and Trump’s lawyers are pushing for a delay in order to fully address the legal implications of the case. Stay tuned as the legal battle continues to unfold.
