Toomaj Salehi, Iranian dissident rapper, cleared of charge as death sentence overturned.

CNN

Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, known for his dissent against the government, escaped the death penalty earlier this year. He has now been completely cleared of all charges by a lower court in Iran. Salehi was a prominent figure during the 2022 protests in Iran, using his lyrics to inspire and unite protesters. Although initially sentenced to death for “corruption on earth,” his conviction was eventually overturned by the Supreme Court.

His lawyer announced the acquittal, but Salehi remains in custody. Rights groups are advocating for his immediate release as he still faces charges related to social media posts and disrupting public order. Despite the cleared charges, Salehi’s legal battles are ongoing, highlighting the complex nature of dissent in Iran.
