Slow Internet in Pakistan Affecting Businesses and Economy
The citizens of Pakistan are facing challenges due to slow internet speeds, impacting freelancers, digital agencies, and the country’s economy. The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, led by Palusha Khan, has taken action to address these issues by demanding a detailed report within two weeks.
Senator Afnan Ullah Khan highlighted the $500 million loss faced by freelancers and digital agencies, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted internet services for the nation’s progress. Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, acknowledged the widespread complaints about internet speed and assured ongoing efforts to improve the situation, including the auction of 5G services.
The committee discussed the cyber security threats targeting Pakistan and the need to enhance state capabilities for prevention. Despite challenges, Secretary of IT Aisha Humera expressed confidence in resolving internet disruptions soon. The committee will reconvene after the submission of the detailed report to strategize further actions.
