Slow Internet Services: PTA Responds to Complaints
In response to complaints about slow internet services in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) addressed the issue during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology. Members of the committee expressed concerns about the impact on e-commerce platforms and users struggling with uploading and downloading media files on WhatsApp.
During the meeting, officials from PTA and the IT ministry faced criticism for the decline in business activities caused by poor internet speed. The PTA officials claimed they had not received any complaints about slow internet, while the IT ministry pointed to issues with cellular networks.
The agenda of the meeting, which was supposed to discuss Firewall installations, was postponed due to the unavailability of PTA officials. Earlier, the government had announced plans to install a firewall with deep packet inspection technology to regulate social media and internet traffic.
