PTI Independence Day rallies in Lahore were marked by police chases, clashes, arrests, and the release of PTI workers. The emergence of PTI Punjab General Secretary Hammad Azhar, who had been in hiding since last year’s violent protests, added dimension to the event. Despite police efforts to block the rally, PTI parliamentarians marched from the assembly gate to GPO Chowk, demanding the release of Imran Khan and other detained leaders.
Hammad Azhar led a motorcycle rally in Lahore despite being wanted by the police for over 50 FIRs. He criticized the government’s heavy-handed tactics and emphasized the party’s commitment to securing “real independence” under Imran Khan’s leadership. A dozen PTI workers were arrested, but all were later released.
Additionally, PTI MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas resigned from his leadership position in the Punjab Assembly due to his ongoing legal issues. The day also saw arrests and releases in Harappa and Farid Town for organizing rallies supporting Imran Khan.
Overall, the PTI Independence Day rallies were a mix of resistance, clashes, and resolution to support their leadership.
