Karnataka minister to launch clearance drive for govt land encroachment next month

The crackdown on encroachments on government lands is set to begin in September, announced Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. Out of the 14.32 lakh government properties in the state, 13.4 lakh have already been surveyed using the ‘land beat’ app-based system.

A preliminary survey revealed that 91,000 acres of government land have been encroached upon, prompting the initiation of a clearance operation next month. The focus will initially be on clearing encroachments in burial grounds and lakes.

In addition, the digitalization of old revenue documents is currently underway in 31 taluks on a trial basis and is set to expand statewide in the coming month. Over 4.43 crore documents will be scanned and made available online for easy access.
