India: Thousands of Women March Overnight After Young Female Doctor’s Murder

Amidst the darkness of night, women carrying candles took to the streets in cities across India to protest the horrific rape and murder of a young female doctor in a hospital. The incident has sparked outrage over the lack of safety for women in the country, despite strict new laws in place, as reported by Reuters.

The 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered inside the medical college where she worked in Kolkata, leading to nationwide protests among doctors. Police confirmed the heinous act and arrested a police volunteer in connection with the crime.

In response to the tragedy, government hospitals across India suspended regular services, with junior doctors staging protests outside, demanding justice. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association has also announced a strike in solidarity with their colleague, as reported by The Times of India.
