Hadramout authorities crack down on educators: Yemen Press Agency

In a controversial move, local authorities in Hadramout province, aligned with the Saudi-led coalition, are looking to replace basic teachers with contractors in the valley districts. This decision comes after the Teachers Union declared a strike during the upcoming academic year 2024-2025.

Reports suggest that education offices in the valley districts of Hadramout have been instructed to hire male and female teachers on a contractual basis. These measures have been met with criticism, with sources warning of potential consequences and a further escalation of tensions.

The Teachers Syndicate has already planned a comprehensive strike across schools in several provinces, including Aden, Shabwa, Lahj, Abyan, and Mahra. Despite the teachers’ demands, the pro-coalition government has yet to respond, leaving the situation unresolved.

It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and what impact these changes will have on the education system in Hadramout province.
