Google confirms Iranian hackers targeting Trump, Harris campaigns

Iranian hackers have been targeting former President Trump’s campaign and the campaigns of President Biden and VP Kamala Harris, as confirmed by a recent Google report. The report revealed attempted infiltrations of various email accounts associated with these campaigns, with numerous blocked login attempts by Google.

APT42, an Iranian hacking group, has been linked to these attacks, although Google did not confirm their responsibility for the leaked data. They also disclosed a successful breach of a high-profile political consultant’s account without revealing the individual’s identity.

The FBI is currently investigating the hacking incident against Trump’s team, with suspicions pointing towards foreign interference in the 2024 US election, particularly from Iran. This escalation in cyber threats aligns with Microsoft’s report indicating a rise in foreign malign influence, highlighting Russian and Iranian operations.

Iran, known for its hostile cyber activities, has been a suspect in numerous hacking campaigns globally. The ongoing tensions stemming from the 2020 drone strike that killed General Soleimani have further fueled their vendetta against Trump.
